There are some albums that I listen to review – usually over a period of three days I listen to it four or five times at least once with the lyrics in hand – ’til we see the shore has been different, mainly because I love it and you can check my last.fm stats if you don’t believe me!
Now I’m guessing that many of you reading won’t have heard of seabird and when I first listened to the CD I hadn’t either. The best way I think to describe them is a cross between The Feeling and Keane with a touch of Razorlight chucked in for fun! It’s fulled with electric guitar riffs, with piano and bass forming a foundation and the vocals delicately drizzled over the top to create the knickerbocker glory of Christian music. And that’s no bad thing! Seabird are a hugely enjoyable band to listen to.
In one sense ’til we see the shore is mellow, perfect for putting on as background music and allowing it to flow around you as you complete your daily tasks. In a completely different way it’s a challenging, gripping listen that once started is very difficult to prise yourself away from.
My top tracks on this album have changed with every listen and in my different moods, the epic title track and final song on the album ’til we see the shore is almost a seascape of music and the vocals are incredibly powerful. Opening track Black and blue with it’s strong rhythms and its lyrics calling us to stand up is incredibly radio friendly. I could literally write about every track here without a problem. I’ve enjoyed every single one and there hasn’t been a need to use my skip track keyboard key!
In conclusion this is an album that I’m going to be continuing to consume to for a long time to come. With a fresh out the packet feeling on every listen, this is a piece of Christian music gold that I expect to go platinum!
9/10 – This is a stunning debut album and must put Seabird into some form of newcomer of the year award. Buy this album…
