Sponsor a Child in Jesus Name with Compassion

Primary School Assembly with the aim of showing children how we need to work together.
Themes: Teamwork, Relationships, Nehemiah, Friendship

You’ll need….Sweets in dish and really long spoons (make these by taping spoons onto long sticks e.g. mop handles)

Start by showing a challenge that you’ve been set by a friend. He’s given you two ’special’ spoons and a dish of smarties and you’ve got to try and eat the sweets using the spoons. Struggle to use the spoons to get the smarties in your mouth. Ask the kids to give you ideas, try some of them.

Say you’ve got a story that might help with the answer.

The story of Nehemiah (You can create your own version, or read ‘Nehemiah Builds the Wall’ from The Rhyme Bible Storybook)

Ask the children -
Could Nehemiah have built the wall on his own? (no!)
What did he need to build the wall? (a Team!)
Has this given anyone an idea how I could get these sweets?

Pick a volunteer to help you. Give the volunteer one of the spoons and keep one for yourself. Get a sweet using your spoon and feed it to your volunteer. Encourage them to do the same for you. Remember to thank your volunteer.

Say how today’s assembly has been about working together. You need to work as a team to use a seesaw, play football, or pat-a-cake!

Have a time of quiet to allow the children to reflect on what they could do to be part of a team today. Then pray

Dear God, Thank you for the Bible with all it’s exciting stories that we can learn from. Please help us to be part of a team, to help each other when we work and play. Amen
